Australia’s youth wicket-keeper batsman, Matthew Wade, is confident that he can offer an imposing show for the national roster if he is given a shot under the longer formats of the game – having already marked a Twenty20 (T20) debut during his team’s recent
limited overs assignment against the South African hosts.
Wade marked his first ever appearance for the Australian T20 roster, during the 2-match series opening match against the Proteas at Cape Town on October 13.
With the game resulting in the Kangaroos’ favour, Wade retained an undefeated knock at the turf with a single run, after his partner batter, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SPD-Smith-c2555, led the roster to cover up the chase in the closing deliveries of the inning’s final over.
As for his second appearance for the national side, Wade stepped out as the opening batsman, alongside http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DA-Warner-c1301, but suffered a dismissal in the 5th over of the innings, after scoring 10 runs.
However, the youngster, who was initially brought on board in place of the injury marred http://www.senore.com/Cricket/TD-Paine-c2652, was omitted from the visiting side’s following One Day International (ODI) stint against the Proteas, after Wade had to call in for his finger surgery, which
he fractured last year.
In one of his recent interviews, the 24-year-old said, “Me and 'Painey' are thereabouts lurking around the top and obviously there’s going to be another couple of young keepers come through in the next couple of years to keep pushing up”.
However, Wade also admitted that his limited run in South African really enhanced his cricketing abilities and came as a worthy opportunity to serve his national roster.
“Just to get in the squad for a short period of time was a great opportunity for me. Twenty20 is thankfully giving people opportunities for short periods of time, just to get amongst the group to find out how the good players go about their games,” said
Wade.
The youngster further added that his international stint has also helped him to train harder on the home-turf and will now be looking to make another international premier under the longer formats of the sport.
