With the retirement of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/TD-Paine-c2652, Australia’s newest wicket-keeper, Matthew Wade, is relishing the opportunity to play in the national squad.
Wade has been selected in the T20 squad for his national side's trip to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757, and hopes to make a name for himself.
"I'm really happy to get the chance to play for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746," Wade said. "It's everyone's dream. A lot of hard work goes into getting there. I'm just stoked that I've got my opportunity. Hopefully I can take it and things can go further from here."
The player had a prolific season with the bat as he was the second-highest run getter in the Ryobi Cup. Earlier he had performed well in Sheffield Shield for the Victorian side, amassing notable runs which led them the team to the title in 2009-10 season.
He moved to Victoria at the age of 19 after finding it difficult to compete with his childhood friend, Paine in the Hobart side. The move has paid dividends since, as he has appreciably improved on his batting and glove work.
The player has played in 45 First-class matches, making over 2000 runs at a healthy average of 37.87. His T20 domestic career has seen him plying his trade with the Indian Premier League franchise, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Delhi-c780 Daredevils, and now looks set to perform in the shorter
version of the game for the Kangaroos.
"I haven't played a lot of Twenty20, it's the least amount of games I've played out of the three forms," Wade said. "But I feel like I'm getting better. I know my game very well now. I'm happy to get an opportunity in whatever form it is, and T20 I feel
comfortable playing it and hopefully I can do the job."
The T20 squad, captained by Cameron White, will take on the Proteas from October 13, 2011.
The player is the ninth wicket-keeper to have played for the national team in the past 20 years, which includes greats like http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ian-Andrew-Healy-c63758.
