Matthias Almer clinches Men’s Single title at Polish International Junior Championships
Austria’s Matthias Almer has proved that he has got what it takes to become an elite shuttler as he has clinched Men’s Singles title at the Yonex Polish International Junior Championships 2012, on Sunday, January 22, in Poland.
In the final contest of the tournament, Matthias toppled Matej Hlinican of Slovakia without showing any mercy and won the fight in straight sets by taking just 30 minutes of the court time.
Matthias, who was top seed in Men’s Singles draw of the championship, has been playing remarkable badminton in the whole tournament and continued his phenomenal run in the final match as well.
The Austrian did not drop even a single game in all matches of Polish International and also won the final showdown in similar fashion.
The top seed started the first game in a quick way as he did not face any problem in setting up an early lead. He employed powerful smashes from the rear-court area and maintained his domination over the pace of rallies. Until the break, Matthias was moving
far ahead of his Slovak challenger.
After the break, Matej tried to tackle the aggression of his higher ranked rival but could not dominate the pace of rallies. On the other hand, Matthias was quicker in finishing the rallies and he did not miss any chance to extend his lead.
Matthias remained on track and kept his rival moving around in the court throughout the set and bagged it with a tremendous 21-13 margin on the score board.
The second game of the title match was somewhat identical to the opening set as Matthias again faced no trouble in setting up a comfortable lead.
The smashes of the top seed landed in the right areas and he did not let his rival to level the score at any stage. Until the break, Matthias was in good position as he took a comfortable lead.
After the break, Matthias kept his speed at the maximum level and stretched his lead. He did not face tough opposition from his lower ranked Slovak opponent and won the second game with a striking score of 21-14.
This Men’s Singles final clash ended in the favour of Matthias who ended it with an impressive margin of 21-13 and 21-14.
