Matthias Almer hammers Schaefer Kai in Men’s Singles qualifying round of Slovenia International
Austria’s Matthias Almer continued his winning run and reserved his place in Men’s Singles main round after proving his worth against Germany’s Schaefer Kai at the FZ Forza Slovenia International 2012 at Medvode, Slovenia, on Thursday, May 10.
The un-seeded Matthias, who remained impressive in all of his matches in qualifying round, continued his winning streak and defeated Schaefer to surge into the next stage.
Matthias was just uncontrollable for the German shuttlers and he managed to win the contest in two sets while working hard for 43 minutes in the court.
On the other hand, Schaefer showed remarkable skills but he failed to live up to expectations and lost the battle without showing a strong resistance.
In the opening game, the Austrian played with confidence and he did not make any mistake in opening rallies which helped him to take a reasonable lead on the board.
In the meanwhile, Schaefer also found a good start as he matched the pace of rallies against his Austrian opponent and remained slightly behind Matthias on the score board until the one-minute interval.
After the break, Matthias injected power in his shots and also placed his strokes in right areas. His accuracy disturbed his German opponent who failed to return the bird in right areas.
Matthias was focused in the game and he did not miss any chance in the whole set to stretch his lead. He eventually took the opening set with a superb score of 21-16.
In the second game, the Austrian continued his positive play as he set up remarkable lead at the early stage.
On the other hand, the German could not show his brilliance in this game and he committed a few unforced errors which helped his Austrian opponent to take lead until the break.
After the interval, Matthias remained consistent in his positive play and did not show any respect to Schaefer.
The Austrian remained positive and wrapped up the second set in a tremendous fashion by a 21-12 score on the board.
Matthias won this qualifying round encounter in just 43 minutes with a decent score of 21-16 and 21-12.
