Matthias Almer tames Marin Baumann to reach into main round at Turkiye International 2012
Austria’s Matthias Almer continued his winning run and secured his berth in Men’s Singles main round after defeating France’s Marin Baumann in qualifying round at Turkiye International 2012 on Wednesday, December 19, in Turkey.
The un-seeded Almer, who showed his impressive skills throughout the qualifying round, maintained his supremacy in the arena and stunned Baumann who was the third seed in the draw.
Austrian shuttler played top class badminton while staying focused in the arena and he did not face any problem in crushing his higher ranked French challenger in straight games with a controlled margin.
On the other hand, the third seeded Baumann tried his level best to play attacking badminton but he failed to prove his worth and finally crashed out without proving his worth in the arena.
Both shuttlers started their campaign in a positive manner in the opening set of this qualifying round clash and they stayed close at the initial stage.
However, Almer became incredibly quick in getting the bird early and he started to control the affairs by pushing his French opponent on back foot.
It was Almer who did not show any respect to his passionate challenger in the first part and clinched a comfortable lead on score board.
Baumann tried to play attacking badminton but remained unable to take charge of the game and remained trailing in the concluding part.
The positive and aggressive play of Almer assisted him to bag the opening game with a sound margin of 21-17.
Baumann increased his speed to play smart badminton in the first part of second set but he failed to build pressure on his opponent.
Until the one-minute interval, the lofty Almer continued playing with command and variations and remained ahead on the board.
After the mid-game break, the Austrian shuttler continued his flawless run in the arena and did not show any mercy to his French opponent at any stage. He easily grabbed the set with a superb 21-9 total on the board.
Almer emerged as the winner in this last contest in Men’s Singles qualifying round in a strong manner as he ended up the fight with a convincing 21-17 and 21-9 margin on the score board.
