Matthias Bachinger devastates Richard Bloomfield in opening round – Challenger of Granby 2011 CH
Second seed German, Matthias Bachinger, cruised through the opening round of the National Bank’s Challenger of Granby, by defeating Richard Bloomfield of the Great Britain, on Tuesday afternoon.
Being played on the hard courts of Granby, Canada, the contest proved to be a comprehensive victory for the German, who took down Bloomfield in straight sets 6-3, 6-4, to qualify for the second round of the ATP (Association of
Tennis Professionals) Challenger Tour event.
The Briton hung in the contest for merely one hour and thirty seven minutes before he crumbled to lose the matchup. Bloomfield bettered his opponent in some segments of the game but his overall points winning proficiency was no
match for Bachinger. The German got his winning momentum in the opening set and then carried on with his impetus to reel off the second set as well and made it into the next round draws of the tournament.
With an ordinary serve precision of just 50 per cent, Bachinger reeled off 10 out of 18 first serve points in the game. His agility in throughout the contest was phenomenal, as he traced down most of the occasional drop shots from
the British opponent with great anticipation and converted them into a number to cross-court winners.
The German crafted six opportunities to break the opponent’s serve in the opening set and cashed in just one chance to perfection to get the commanding position in the contest. Bachinger secured 38 out of 68 total points being
played in the opener and reached 6-3 with one break point to bag the first set.
Bloomfield posed some serious resistance in the following set and collected 20 out of 28 first set points with his 74 per cent accurate serve. The Briton constructed four different break chances in the second set but squandered
away all of them to remain at a disadvantage in the contest.
Bachinger carried on to play his error-free tennis in the second set and stung a timely serve break on his second chance to reach match point at 5-4. He had no real trouble in serving out of the contest to conclude victory at 6-4
and move into the second round of the National Bank’s Challenger of Granby tournament.
The German will take on Antoine Benneteau of France in his next round encounter later this week for a place in the quarter-finals of the tournament. Benneteau was successful against the local qualifier, Yoann Re, in straight sets
6-1, 6-3, in the opening round on Wednesday.
