Matthias Bachinger dumps Danai Udomchoke in second round – PTT Thailand Open 2011
Lucky run for the local wildcard entrant finally ended in the second round of the PTT Thailand Open, as he suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of the unseeded German competitor, Matthias Bachinger, on Wednesday afternoon.
Being played on the indoor hard courts of the Impact Arena, in Bangkok, Thailand, the contest witnessed exceptional power hitting from the 98th ranked German. 24-year-old Bachinger took one hour and forty one minutes
to wind up a straight sets victory at 7-6(5), 6-3, to book a berth in the quarter-finals of the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) World Tour 250 event.
After playing a competitive opening set, Udomchoke lost his way through the second set to let the match slip away from his hands. The Thai contestant bettered Bachinger in some segments of the game but the overall brilliance of
the German proved too good for Udomchoke to handle. He secured 34 first serve points in the game, while Bachinger collected 30 out of his 42 points en route to victory. Eight fiery aces gave the German some un-fought points in the match and he nailed five
out of 11 break points to finish off the contest in style.
Action started right from the very first game of the match, with both men launching a series of forays upon one another. After consecutive serve breaks in the opening four games of the set, a tie breaker came into play with the
scores levelled at 6-6. Bachinger took the better of his opponent in the decider at sealed the first set at 7-6(5) to get one up in the contest.
Udomchoke registered a serve break in the following set but had to suffer three from the aggressive German. Bachinger closed out victory by clinching the second set at 6-3, going through to the round of 16 of PTT Thailand Open.
Bachinger will face the third seeded Frenchman, Gilles Simon, or the unseeded Taiwanese, Yen-Hsun Lu in the quarter-final clash. Simon and Lu will fight for a quarter-final berth on Wednesday afternoon, with the winner getting
a chance to battle against Bachinger in the round of eight.
