Matthias Bachinger edges pass Dustin brown in first round – Hall of Fame Championships 2011
An enthralling contest was witnessed at the International Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport, Rhode Island, United States, when German competitor, Matthias Bachinger, outplayed his fellow compatriot, Dustin Brown in the opening round
of the Campbell’s Hall of Fame Tennis Championships on Monday.
In the all-German affair, Bachinger toiled hard to overcome Brown in the three-setter, after settling the final scores at 7-6(7), 6-7(5), 6-1, in one hour and fifty one minutes of play. Bachinger’s victory sends him to the second
round of the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) World Tour 250 tournament.
Rated at number 92 in the world rankings, Bachinger exhibited a brilliant display of his tennis skills far better than his ranking suggests. He bagged the opening set tie breaker and looked in a strong position in the contest but
Brown countered very well to make a strong comeback in the very next set, levelling the matchup with one set a piece. However, Brown lost his steam in the final set and submitted the game to his superior country-fellow to end his voyage at the Campbell’s Hall
of Fame Tennis Championships.
24-year-old Bachinger delivered 53 per cent of his first serve on target, firing 11 aces in the match and his opponent closely followed him with 51 per cent serve and 12 aces. Brown was led down by his error-ridden game in the
matchup, as he conceded a number of unforced errors, especially in the final set, and committed eight costly double faults.
Bachinger’s points winning proficiency was phenomenal in the game, as he brilliantly secured 45 out of 51 first serve points and converted two out of four serve breaks en route to victory. Brown failed to take advantage of the
two break points bestowed on him by his fellow compatriot and squandered away the vital opportunities to finish on the losing end.
Intense tennis was witnessed in the opening set, with both men battling hard to take down their opponent. No serve breaks were registered and eventually a tie breaker was enforced, with Bachinger winning at 7-6(7), after a stiff
contest. The next was a complete replication of the first one but Brown was successful this time round to win the set in tie breaker round at 7-6(5).
Tide turned in the final set once again with Brown going through a terrible slump, dropping serve on two successive occasions to let Bachinger away with victory at 6-1.
