Matthias Bachinger knocks down Frank Dancevic in semi-final round – IPP Open 2011
German world no.109, Matthias Bachinger turned on to play his semi-final round match of the IPP Open 2011 against higher ranked Canadian, Frank Dancevic, world no.156, on Saturday, 26th of November at Tali, Helsinki, Finland.
With the two clashing out hard, Bachinger surprised the higher ranked with a straight set finish, 6-3, 6-4, in just fifty seven minutes to walk onto the final round.
The disparity in ranking does give a thought that how could a higher-ranked player loose from a lower ranked. This wasn’t the first time the Canadian lost; however, they now have a head-to-head battle of 3-2 to Bachinger. Playing
matches on hard courts as well as on clay, this was the third time the two went down to play on hard, Greenset court.
Nevertheless, with the two walking down the hard circuit, Bachinger took the match start as he won the toss and served out the match opener, 1-0. Dancevic followed with his first win of the set evening up the scores at 1-1. Winning
a game each the two levelled up at 2-2 before the German made his move.
Serving out game five, 3-2, Bachinger broke his Canadian competitor in game six, 4-2, and followed with a superb service winner to lead the set 5-2. Dancevic did pull back a game, however, was unable to cut down the lead and eventually
lost the set, 6-3.
Bachinger won an amazing 93 percent of his first serve points and 70 percent of his second. the 24-year-old managed to secure 20 service points and 9 returners totalling 29 to his opening set win.
Moving on with the second set of the fixture, Dancevic served first again turning down the scoreboard, 1-0, however, Bachinger followed his Canadian rival and levelled up the scores instantly, winning game two, 1-1. Rallying down
games the two evened up at 2-2 before the German broke game five, 3-2, and served out game six to lead the scores 4-2.
With two more games left to finish up the fixture, Bachinger overpowered the Canadian in two of the last four games, concluding the set, 6-4, and the match in straight games, 40 service points and 21 returners totalling 61 points,
to make his way into the final round of the ATP Challenger tour event.
With an easy semi-final win, Bachinger steps into the final showdown of the IPP Open 2011. Facing his compatriot, Daniel Brands, the 24-year-old has to put up a greater deal as his final rival has been in mesmerizing for lately.
With Brands lead the head-to-head scores between the two, 3-2, Bachinger will surely look to settle the scores once and for all.
