Matthias Bachinger ousts Greg Jones in opening round clash – PTT Thailand Open 2011

Rated at number 98 in the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) World Rankings, Matthias Bachinger of Germany cruised through the opening round matchup against the Australian qualifier, Greg Jones, at the PTT Thailand Open
on Tuesday afternoon.
The contest took one hour and thirty six minutes to conclude, with 24-year-old German winning in straight sets 7-5, 6-4, to enter the second round draw of the ATP World Tour 250 tournament convincingly.
It was only the third World Tour-level victory for the German, with nine losses already to his name in the current year. Bachinger faced no real challenge from his opponent in the entire matchup and raced through the games with
ease to come out as the winner in the end.
Both contestants fired nine aces and reeled 39 first serve points apiece in the matchup. The only differentiating factor in the competition was the two vital serve breaks from the German. Bachinger converted two of his 14 break
opportunities, with Jones struggling to craft a single break point in the entire matchup.
The opening set took off steadily, with no serve breaks been observed in the opening 10 games. Bachinger finally made to move and nailed the first serve break of the day in the 11th game and then served out of the first
set at 7-5 to get one up in the match.
The German carried on his winning impetus in the following set as well, breaking his opponent in the very first game to lead 2-0 early in the set. Jones utterly failed to pay him back with a break point conversion and kept trailing
the scores in the second set until Bachinger wrapped up victory at 6-4 to get through to the second round of the tournament.
Bachinger will face the local wildcard contestant, Danai Udomchoke, in the next round clash for a place in the quarter-finals of the tournament. The Thai competitor made a huge upset in the opening round when he outplayed the sixth
seeded Italian, Fabio Fognini, to make a spot in the second round of the Thailand Open.
