The Bayern Munich sporting director has criticised Bayern Munich for their poor showing against Werder Bremen in the recent league clash.
The Reds won the fixture with a 2-0 scoreline at the Weserstadion, but it by no means an impressive performance from the former German champions. The side secured their sixth straight win in the league and are currently leading
the Bundesliga standings table.
Bayern scored two goals in the last ten minutes to claim all three points. The Bavarian giants were below par for most of the game as they failed to create enough chances and the finishing was very poor.
Matthias Sammer blasted his side for being poor on the pitch and insisted that the players cannot afford to be complacent at this stage of the season. He admitted that the team were over confident and wasted some great opportunities
to go upfront in the game.
The chief claimed that the players did not try hard in the first-half and the team lacked determination throughout the course of the game.
“We have to take care that we don't embrace and enjoy it too much! We can step out on a balcony somewhere in Munich, but that doesn't mean we're going to get the trophy. We weren't really awake and aggressive. What we did before
our first goal was too little, that's for sure. There was a lack of movement, that has to be said,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
On the other hand, manager Jupp Heynckes also supported Sammer’s comments and admitted that the team lacked the spirit in the game. He was not convinced by the performance and has called for improvement in the next game.
“It's not always possible to dominate the opponent but we showed too little spirit, the players strained my patience,” he concluded.
Bayern Munich are leading the league standings table with 18 points from the six games played and will take on Hoffenheim at home in the next fixture. The side are being tipped by many as the side to win the league competition
at the end of the campaign as they have been in sensational form of late.
