Matti Breschel to continue his Tour of Denmark performance in the World Championships
Matti Breschel who had to quit the Tour of Denmark because of bad health is positive for a good come back in World Championships. He was in a good form during the Tour of Denmark and was looking superb before he had to leave the tour because of sickness
as he stated, “I came down with the flu on the morning of the final stage. I had a fever and I was being sick. I really wanted to do the stage it was in my home town and all my friends and families were there.”
Pressure of World Championships is obvious on all the players but Breschel said that he will remain positive and will focus only on winning the championships and he considers himself lucky to be able to ride in the mega event as he mentioned, “I don’t think
the (home crowd) should expect anything from us until the last lap. We only have six guys so the pressure will be on the big nations. I don’t think we have the team for pulling the whole day.”
Breschel mentioned that during the recent Tour his performance was pretty good. He went close to winning two stages in the Tour of Denmark but could not finish because of two knee injuries and also missed most of the season because of the same reason.
He was second overall before the start of second last stage of the Tour of Denmark but could not continue his performance as he finished 76th with 36 points at stage five. After the stage five general classifications Breschel was at 13th
position which certainly was not lucky for him as he could not start the next stage and had to leave the Tour of Denmark because of his health.
Breschel believes that the World Championships will favour the sprinters and he has strong chances to make his way through the rainbow jersey. He further added that it will be a tough race and he has to plan and divide his strengths as he will be racing
against the world’s best sprinter.
