Enrico Preziosi, the Grifone chief, had gone on to state that he would give preference to Internazionale and would sell the player to the Beneamata even if their bid was a little less than other teams.
Siena complicated matters by acting on a clause in the Destro contract of buying 50 per cent of the rights of the player after his loan spell ended.
There was a momentary lapse in negotiations as Destro and Roma failed to settle on a mutually acceptable wage rate. However, the deal was wrapped up and finalised later on.
When quizzed on the rationale behind his move to Il Lupi, Destro remarked that he was confident of the future of Roma as a successful club, and felt that it was the best choice for him.
He went ahead and remarked:
“I am here because I was convinced by the project at Roma and the desire the club had to sign me. Roma is a great club and there are many champions in the squad. I wanted to make what would be the best choice for me.”
When quizzed over his preference for Roma over the other clubs, he refused from making a comment and remarked that it does not matter now that he is at Roma. He was grateful for Enrico Preziosi for going through with his promise.
