Mattias Wigardt finds much needed breakthrough at Irish Future Series 2012 – Badminton news
Sweden’s Mattias Wigardt proved his mettle on court as he played with remarkable precision got a much needed breakthrough by winning the Men’s Singles title at Irish Future Series 2012 on Sunday, October 14, at Dublin, Ireland.
In the final battle of the championship, the in-form Wigardt stamped his mark over Maxime Michel of France in a completely lopsided fashion.
The incredible Wigardt, who was the top shuttler in Men’s Singles draw of the championship, was on a different level as he played with impressive confidence and speed on court and managed to crush his lower ranked challenger by taking just 25 minutes on
court.
On the other hand, the second seeded Michel failed to stay consistent on court as he could not control the pace of rallies and also remained unable to cope up with the speed of his top seeded opponent.
French shuttler was in all sorts of trouble throughout the battle and ultimately lost the contest in straight games with a huge margin without delivering a strong performance.
In the first set, it was the higher ranked Wigardt who showed no mercy to his challenger and remained in commanding position. He constructed a huge gap on board until the end of opening half.
After the one-minute break, Wigardt did not slow down his speed as he continued showing his aggression on court without sparing any chance for his rival to fight back in the game.
The in-form Swedish player sailed smoothly in the concluding half of opening game and eventually ended it up with a staggering 21-8 score on the board.
In the second set, Michel tried to put up strong resistance by playing attacking badminton but he failed to create a difference as his rival was flawless on court.
Wigardt on the other hand, was calm and composed on court as he did not execute risky shots and remained consistent in his positive play. He easily finished up the second game with a stunning margin of 21-9.
The lofty Wigardt emerged as the title winner in Irish Future Series as he finished up the final battle in a dictating fashion by a 21-8 and 21-9 score on the board.
