I WENT INTO THIS MATTRESS STORE, AND THEY HAD A SPECIAL...

QUEEN BED $700

AND BOX SPRING $700... A $1400 set SPECIAL AS IT WERE...

Now, why in the h**l does a box spring cost $700? All it is is a wood frame with cheap fabric covering it all...

And as an aside question... when purchasing a bed frame, with headboard, the whole works... Do you still need the box spring, or can you just simply place the mattress on the bed frame?

  1. Can't tell you why beds are so expensive, but you really do need a box spring, not just a mattress. Also, you'll probably have it 15-20 years. The price isn't that bad if you think about it that way.

  2. You can't place any mattress right on the bed frame, you always need box springs.

What you were getting was a mattress for $1300 and a $100 box spring. You are correct the box springs are the cheap part of a set. In fact most places will sell you a set of lets say Sealy Posture Pedic, but did you know that a lot of the time the box springs are generic and not Sealy? Ask them about this and watch them squirm!!!!!

The best thing to do is compare prices at several reputable stores.Free delivery and set up is worth a lot - same goes for hauling away your old mattress & box springs. You don't want to try and do this yourself.
