Maurice Byarm scheduled to take on Magomed Abdusalamov in a 10-round bout – Boxing News
Maurice Byarm, the surging American heavyweight, put forth the media his resolve to nail his upcoming opponent Magomed Abdusalamov and commented that he is not intimidated by the Russian’s resume adding that he has a good game plan and a revamped punching
power at his disposal.
Magomed and Maurice are scheduled to take on each other in a 10-round showdown which will co-headline the pay-per-view jointly promoted by Greg Cohen of Greg Cohen Promotions and Sampson Lewkowicz of Sampson Boxing LLC.
The bout will have WBC United States (USNBC) Silver heavyweight title up for grabs and will be televised live on Friday July 6, 2012. The event will be headlined by the 10-round non-title featherweight bout between Marvin Sonsona and Orlando Cruz.
Byarm, 29, recently collected his career’s first loss from the fists of Bryant Jennings and lost the golden chance to grab the USA Pennsylvania State heavyweight gold. The Philadelphia proud has won 13 of his total 15 bouts.
Widely known as the ‘Freight Train’, Maurice has nailed nine of his opponents by knockout and is in dire need to make a comeback on the win track, the reason why he is undergoing a strenuous training and has decided to make the Russian Magomed an example
of his new revamped form.
During the press conference, Byarm aggressively iterated that he will not allow Magomed overcome him easily in fact will annihilate him in the initial rounds by his powerful punches.
Byarm while praising his opponent remarked, “He’s a decent fighter but I’ve seen a lot of flaws. I’m going to fight my fight and we’ve got a good game plan this time around. His record and knockouts don’t’ mean much to me because he hasn’t fought anybody
of my caliber. He has punching power but I have punching power too. I know my will to win this fight is much higher than his. This will be my shot to show the world what I truly have to offer!”
Magomed, 31, boasts an undefeated streak and has been in a total 14 bouts. The Russian pounder’s lethalness can be determined from the fact that he has nailed all of his 14 opponents by knockout and interestingly within the first four rounds.
Also known as ‘The Mago’, Abdusalamov is coming from an impressive fourth round technical knockout win over undefeated Jason Pettaway. The bout will certainly be a test for both men and it might be a good chance for Maurice to improve his rankings.
