Maurice Creek sustains third injury in 22 months – Basketball News
Maurice Creek came to Indiana Hoosiers as a gilt-edged talent with NBA ambitions. Unfortunately, he has spent more time adjusting injuries in his three years as a basketball player than he has spent in the court.
The team announced today that the 6 ft star went through a surgery to fix a torn Achilles tendon that he suffered away from the basket ball court. Usually the recovery takes around 10 months so Creek will probably be missing the
whole 2011-2012 season.
“All or our energy is devoted to Maurice in helping him through this latest setback, i know he and his family have always appreciated the thoughts and prayers they receive from Hoosier Nation” said Tom Crean, the head coach of
the Hoosiers.
Creek along with Christian Watford and Jordan Hulls arrived in Bloomington three years ago in T0m Crean’s aboriginal real recruiting class with dream of re erect the Hoosiers to their winning methods.
Injuries have troubled Creek throughout his short career so far. His first one was back in December 2009 when he fractured his kneecap while moving for a layup against Bryant. There was no such physical contact on the play but
Creek went to the floor in agony.
Then, last season, in a game against Michigan, he endured a stress fracture in the other knee that made him miss the remainder of the season.
“This is a devastating blow for someone who has worked so hard to get himself in a position to help this program again. I think the most important thing that we can do is to make Maurice know that despite his injury, he can serve
a very vital role in helping our program and we will actively keep him involved every day.” said Tom.
Creek had been taking part in individual trainings and exercises this month but had yet to contest in full-court action. After watching him working out with the rest of team despite not fully fit, Tom was pretty impressed with
the young boy’s passion and later expressed his delight through twitter.
Tom also added, that Maurice was an alien before the injuries as no one knew how much he could play and what to expect from him. His shots were pretty solid but it would have been really hard for him to make immediate cuts and
run hard. Tom admitted his injury is a setback for Indiana and will definitely hurt them but he also added the fact that he was not expecting any major contributions from Maurice.
In 30 games for Indiana, Creek has averaged 11.5 points and shot impressive 37 percent from three-point range. His Rookie year average was 8.3 points and last year he managed to end up with impressive 16.4 per game.
Too early to predict his future, but he definitely is an NBA potential.
