Maurice Edu says Rangers have chance to create special Champions League run
Rangers midfielder Maurice Edu believes that the club has the opportunity to create a memorable run in the UEFA Champions League this season.
The Scottish Premier League champions have impressed with their start to this year’s campaign. They earned a creditable point in a goalless draw against English Premier League giants Manchester United at Old Trafford, as well as a victory over Turkish champions
Bursaspor. That has put them at the top of the group alongside the Red Devils, and Rangers have a good chance of progressing to the knockout stages of the competition.
The Ibrox side's good form has led United States international Edu to believe that they can go on to have a ‘special’ Champions League run.
"When the Champions League draw was made, I know a lot of people counted us out, but with the squad we have, I felt it was possible to do something special. So far, we're on track. We're in a good position and it would be foolish to get too far ahead of
ourselves, but we have belief and know what we're capable of achieving. If we stick together and stay united, the potential is there for something special in the Champions League this season."
Rangers’ bid to reach the last 16 of the Champions League will continue when they take on La Liga outfit Valencia at home on Wednesday, 20 October. With Lee McCulloch sidelined due to injury, Edu is likely to start and he is ready to face a side which contains
several 2010 FIFA World Cup winners.
"Having played a few games for USA recently and most of the games for Rangers this season, I feel like I'm ready for it. It'll be a big test against Valencia, but we'll all be up for it at Ibrox. We're in a good position in the Champions League and we want
to keep that going."
