Maurice Harris: I made a mistake by not knocking out Edmund Gerber – Boxing news
Maurice Harris, the current USBA heavyweight champion, in a recent media interaction claimed that he convincingly won his recent bout with Edmund Gerber adding that it was his mistake to not collect a knockout since he was brawling in Edmund’s homeland and
the judge’s biasness was obvious.
The unfortunate Harris is currently under deep stress since he was given a unanimous loss decision in a bout which he dominated from the very first second. The interesting facet of this scenario is that even the crowd and all the critics knew that Maurice
is leading the bout since he was the one who actively connected decent number of jabs and at the same time halted Edmund from collecting points.
Maurice and Edmund recently met in an eight-round non-title bout at the Messehalle arena situated in Erfurt, Thuringen, Germany. The duo fought on the undercard of the pay-per-view promoted by Wilfried Sauerland of Sauerland Event and Ulf Steinforth of Sport
Events Steinforth.
During the whole showdown, Maurice overwhelmed Edmund by his impressive pugilism and outwitted his every manoeuvre. Gerber, who was entering in his 20th career bout, hardly stunned Harris by his jabs in fact as per Maurice’s claim he hardly threw five punches
during the whole bout.
In addition, the stats also put forth a scenario that clearly depicted Maurice having an upper hand. Things go one step ahead when even the odds-maker favoured Harris and denoted him as the winner of the bout from the very beginning.
But due to some reasons the three designated judges, Rainer Schwarz, Josef Temml, and Joerg Milke allocated 79-73, 79-73, and 78-74 in Edmund’s favour. At the moment, the Gerber camp had not broke their silence over this acquisition most probably because
Edmund really did steal the win off Maurice’s resume.
During the press conference, Harris, who has been in a total 44 bouts, aggressively commented, “There’s no doubt about it I was robbed this weekend. Gerber landed maybe five punches the entire fight. I was too slick for him and he couldn't touch me. I landed
more punches and everyone who saw the fight knew I should have won.”
The American proud Maurice somewhat pinpointed his mistake and stated, “Like everyone says, if you fight overseas, you better get the knockout, because the judges are going to favor the hometown guy. I would love to fight Gerber here in America, but I don't
think it will happen because he knows deep down inside his mind that he lost to me already.”
Maurice has collected 25 wins in his career and 11 by knockout. On the other hand, Edmund, 23, is on a 20-bout undefeated win streak.
