Mauricio Rua takes on Brandon Vera in non-title bout on UFC on Fox 4 – UFC News
Mauricio Rua, the former UFC light heavyweight champion, is all set to make a return on the win track by headlining UFC on Fox 4 pay-per-view against Brandon Vera, the former World Extreme Cagefighting heavyweight champion, in a five-round bout which will
be held on August 4, 2012.
The special edition will be televised live from Staples Center in Los Angeles, California, United States and will be broadcasted live on Fox and Fuel TV. The pay-per-view will also witness Ryan Bader take on Lyoto Machida in a non-title bout, co-headlining
the fight card.
The Saturday night showdown will basically have two cards, the main and the preliminary card. Mauricio and Brandon recently shared their thoughts about the upcoming bout.
Rua, 30, who is coming off a unanimous decision loss to Dan Henderson, is hungry for a win and will do anything to again become a part of the title contention scenario.
Also known as ‘Shogun’, Rua has been in a total of 26 mixed martial art bouts, boasting 20 wins. The Brazilian pounder is considered as the best knockout specialist in the whole of UFC.
The former champion has pinned a huge 17 of his opponents by knockout and possesses a pretty invincible standoff game. Moreover, Shogun is also well known for having a strong grip on the octagon mat, the reason why takedowns attempts are not successful on
the Brazilian proud.
While sharing his mind set, Rua stated, “I come to finish fights that is what fans like to see. I like to press forward when I fight because I've been fighting like this for 10 years.” His Saturday night opponent, Vera is also a tough belligerent who has
recently made a comeback on the win track.
The 34-year-old has been in a total of 18 mixed martial art bouts, boasting 12 wins with seven coming by way of knockout. Although Vera is also a knockout pounder still he does not stand a chance in front of the veteran Rua.
During the media interaction, Vera also known as ‘The Truth’, praised Shogun for his talent and commented, “Shogun is a proud, proud man, and he's somebody who will come after you from the get-go. He's coming off a defeat to Dan Henderson in a classic and,
if anything, that's only going to make him go after me even stronger. He won't want to leave anything to chance this time around. His pride will be hurting, and he'll look to make a statement.”
The bout will be a tough one as Mauricio is in dire need of grabbing a win whereas Vera will use this opportunity to move up in the divisional rankings.
