Mauricio “Shogun” Rua eager to face Dan “Hendo” Henderson again – UFC News
When Dan “Hendo” Henderson and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua contested in a bloody fight at UFC 139, it was considered to be one of the best fights ever witnessed within the octagonal ring of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). On
November 19, 2011, San Jose, California was the venue when two of the biggest names in UFC and mixed martial arts (MMA) division made history.
The fight did not have any title at stake but the energy and excitement it produced, was pure raw and straight out brutal. The fighters did not give any room to their opponents in any way to defend themselves and kept going on
with their physical assault. In just two days after the fight, which became the spotlight event at UFC 139, the 29-year old Brazilian Mauricio Rua has given his challenge to Henderson.
Rua was the one at the receiving end of a huge beating by Henderson and lost the fight. He had won the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship in May 2010 by beating Lyoto Machida at UFC 113. He lost the title at UFC 128 when Jon Jones
beat him for the title.
In the year 2011, Rua has been on the losing end for he could only win one out of the three bouts. After losing his UFC Light Heavyweight Championship title, he did win his match against Forrest Griffin at UFC 134 in August 2011,
but that was the only bout from which he came out successful. Rua’s loss to Henderson at UFC 139 but nothing short of an embarrassment for Rua could not make a statement in the UFC ring.
The Brazilian was close in winning the fight for he did carry out his attacking and counter attack maneuvers but was unable to breakdown Henderson’s defenses. He would have felt devastated for being on the losing end in a fight
where his mind was in tune with the fight itself.
After the fight, Rua said, "It certainly was a great fight. I do not know how the judges made the final round of counting, could or should have been 10-8 to me. But that takes nothing away from Dan Henderson. He is a legend and
one of those fighters who have created a legacy. But I want revenge, I think it would be another great battle and the public wants to see."
