Mauritius International 2012: Georgie Cupidon and Cynthia Course win Mixed Doubles title
Seychelles’ spirited shuttlers Georgie Cupidon and Cynthia Course strongly made their presence felt to the world as they won the Mixed Doubles title after beating local players Deeneshsing Baboolall and Shama Aboobakar in the final encounter at Mauritius
International 2012 on Sunday, June 17, in Mauritius.
The un-seeded Georgie and Cynthia, who have been putting up phenomenal show of top class badminton throughout the competition, continued their tremendous performance in the final clash and overpowered their challengers without giving away any game.
The in-form Georgie and Cynthia were impressive while playing in the final battle and they tamed the home favourites in straight sets with a decent margin by working hard for just 22 minutes in the court.
On the other hand, Baboolall and Shama played well in first game but failed to occupy the driving seat as they could not play donating badminton in the ending points and lost the set with a tight margin. However, they failed to play positive badminton in
second game and lost the match with a comfortable difference.
In the first game, both sides played quality badminton as they kept the rallies flat and fast and tried to take an early lead.
However, no sided could set up a clear difference on the score board until the one-minute break.
After the interval, they continued entertaining the local crowd with their attacking play until the ending points when Georgie and Cynthia showed their brilliance and took the game with a 21-19 score on the board.
In the second set, Georgie and Cynthia were in commanding position from the starting points as they played controlled badminton and remained far ahead of their local rivals until the one-minute break.
After the mid-game interval, Georgie and Cynthia remained consistent and positive in the court as they played with impressive precision. They did not let their opponents to narrow the gap at any stage by keeping the pace of the game quite high.
The in-form Georgie and Cynthia ended the second game with a sensational 21-14 score on the board.
The un-seeded Georgie and Cynthia emerged as the winners in the title match with a tremendous margin of 21-19 and 21-14.
