The Palermo Chief Executive has quashed any rumours of a possible move for Edy Reja; however he remarked on the possibility of AC Siena’s Giuseppe Sannino.
The Rosanero have been extremely inconsistent this season, and even though their home record is one of the best in Serie A, they are languishing in the tenth place of the Serie A.
Their away form has been a source of bemusement for the fans leading to calls for Bortolo Mutti’s axe.
Their inconsistent form combined with the temperament of Zamparini has intensified speculation of a change in management of the Renzo Barbera outfit. Reports suggest that Mutti would get the axe a few weeks
back, but the Palermo patron has suggested that the head-coach still has time to change his mind.
The chief further went on to add:
“Now, let’s start with the betting on this story, it is news that has astounded me. Today, [new team manager Christian] Panucci arrives and my Coach is still Mutti. We’ll see how it goes from here to the
end [of the season], but those two names are wide of the mark.”
Edy Reja has been constantly linked with a move to Palermo, but the club’s president stated that even though he respects the master tactician, reports could not be farther from the truth. He commented:
“Reja is my compatriot and near contemporary, I respect him very much, but the possibility of him coming to Palermo is zero per cent. Sannino is a young and upcoming Coach and his percentage is not at zero.
We’ll see what happens.”
Zamparini has not been shy of sacking managers in the past and even this season, he has sacked two coaches. Before Bertolo Mutti’s arrival at the club, he fired the relatively young Devis Mangia before the
turn of the year. The 37-year-old had arrived as a replacement to Stefano Pioli, who was fired due to Zamp’s reservations about his pre-season training.
Pioli went on to coach Bologna and has done extremely well with the club, and the Palermo patron has publicly denounced his decision to sack him.
It seems that Mutti would be given a chance until the end of the season to prove his worth to the club, failure of which would lead to another sacking by Zampa.
