Question:

Mavic Cosmic Carbone or Reynolds Assault?

I ride aggressively, typically on smooth roads, but ocassionally on the potholes of NYC. I weigh in at 175lbs.

Mavics are ultra durable, but heavier than the Reynolds. They also cost $300 more.

I've heard that the Reynolds are quite durable as well (not as strong as the Mavocs, but "good enough" to train on).

Which would you recommend? For what reasons?

Thanks!

  1. I do not have any experience with carbon Mavics, but have had a very good experience with Reynolds.  I'm sure the Carbones are excellent wheels.

But seriously, what are you doing training and riding NYC potholes on any brand of carbon wheel?  Isn't this really a Style Man question?

If you really want some training wheels recommendations please let me know and I'll tell you my experience (over 30 years).

If not, then the answer is Mavic, because most of the clued-in people who see you will KNOW they are more expensive than the Reynolds.
