Max Evans available for Fiji and Samoa – Rugby News Update
Max Evans, the 28-year-old Castres and Scotland centre is available for the remaining two test matches of the summer tour against Fiji and Samoa.
Scotland takes on Fiji at Lautoka, on June 16, and they finish their tour with a game against Samoa at Apia on June 23. Evans missed the 9-6 victory over Australia, as his club was playing Toulouse over the weekend. With his club commitments over, he is
likely to start for the Scots in the remaining two games.
"I just can't wait," enthused Evans. "The semi-final [Castres] had at the weekend was at the football stadium in Toulouse, it was a great track with a really fast surface.”
The conditions at Newcastle against Australia were not ideal for rugby, as a storm before the game made the surface slippery and the match was decided by penalty kicks. However, he expects the pitch conditions in Fiji and Samoa to be ideal, with dry and
hot weather expected for the two remaining games.
Under Andy Robinson, the head coach of Scotland, the form of the national team has been erratic. They had not won a game in seven matches before their triumph against Australia, which included losing all five matches at the 2012 Six Nations Grand Slam. Evans
also finds their form a little unnerving.
"The boys have been completely up for these games and for the Six Nations," he added.
"It's difficult to explain, but whatever the guys are doing now we should keep doing."
He did relish the victory over Australia and watched the game on television in France. He said, "I was trying to keep the noise down in the lounge, but it was great," and further added on the game, "Having the composure to make those few more yards to get
close to the posts; you can tell how much it meant with the reaction afterwards."
Evans made his debut for Scotland against Canada at Aberdeen, on November 22, 2008, and so far he has played 28 games for his country. He has started 24 of those games, and come on as a substitute a further 4 times.
