Max Mirnyi/Daniel Nestor down Bhupathi/Bopanna to reach final showdown – Sony Ericsson Open 2012
Second seeds, Max Mirnyi and Daniel Nestor, triumphed over the Indian duo, Mahesh Bhupathi and Rohan Bopanna, in straight sets at the Sony Ericsson Open 2012 on Thursday. They manipulated a 6-2, 6-4 victory against the Indians to secure a pace in the title-round
at this Masters 1000 event taking place in Miami, Florida.
The Belarusian-Canadian junction displayed tremendous skills to overpower the sixth seeded Indians in straight sets. After earning this success in 55 minutes, Mirnyi and Nestor high-spiritedly entered the final round at this ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals)
World Tour hard court event.
Mirnyi and Nestor thundered into the Tennis Center at Crandon Park and after drawing the first blood in the opening game, they leaped to a 2-0 lead. The Belarusian-Canadian tandem maintained their intensity in the remaining match and cashed in their second
break opportunity in the seventh game to bag the opener with a 6-2 win. The higher ranked team kept their entire serves after blocking both breakpoints they came across.
The Belarusian-Canadian tandem kept momentum flowing in the following set and earned the coveted break in the third game to take the lead. Mirnyi and Nestor fended off all four breakpoints they faced to hold their remaining serves and clinched the set with
a 6-4 score line.
Overall, the high flying collaboration of Mirnyi and Nestor joggled up a lower first serve share but spectacularly clicked 25 out of 28 points in it. They also smashed six aces to muster the match further.
Having a 20-4 win-loss record this season, Mirnyi and Nestor assertively entered this tournament. They are bidding for their third year-to-date title here after conquering Brisbane International and Regions Morgan Keegan Championships.
Next up for the winning team are the seventh seeds, India’s Leander Paes and Czech Republic’s Radek Stepanek. Paired-up in the start of the circuit, Paes and Stepanek shocked the top seeded Americans, Bob and Mike Bryan, in straight sets in one hour and
11 minutes. The lower seeds repeated their Australian Open title-round victory over the American twins after capitalising on three out of 11 break chances. Regardless of failing to save the lone breakpoint they encountered, Paes and Stepanek pulled out the
victory with a 6-4, 6-4 success.
