Max Mirnyi/Daniel Nestor slay Kubot/Tipsarevic to reach semis – Sony Ericsson Open 2012
Second seeds, Belarus’ Max Mirnyi and Canada’s Daniel Nestor, swept past the Polish-Serbian duo, Lukasz Kubot and Janko Tipsarevic, with a breadstick at the Sony Ericsson Open 2012 on Wednesday. They joggled up a 6-1, 6-4 victory
over their opponents to cruise into the final four at this hard court tournament held in Miami, Florida.
The Belarusian-Canadian junction took 57 minutes to overpower their unseeded opponents in their first encounter. They swiped in entire serves and broke Kubot and Tipsarevic’s serve three times to steal the show and progress in
the following round.
Ranked 2nd in the South African Airways ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) World Tour Doubles Rankings, Mirnyi-Nestor collaboration high-spiritedly entered the Tennis Center at Crandon Park and held their opening
serve with poise. They maintained consistency in their game and plucked remaining serves without facing any breakpoint. The Belarusian-Canadian team cashed in both break chances and sealed the opener with a breadstick.
Mirnyi and Nestor kept momentum flowing in the following set and smoothly held entire serves after dusting away the lone breakpoint they faced. The Belarusian-Canadian tandem capitalised on one out of three break chances to pocket
the set by winning six games to four.
Summing up the winning team’s performance at this Masters 1000 event, Mirnyi and Nestor formulated an equal first serve share of 59 per cent but spectacularly clicked 22 out of 26 points on it. They committed an equal number of
double faults but mustered the match by clinching 55 points.
The Belarusian-Canadian team is in amazing run of form as they already claimed two titles this season. They conquered hard court titles at the Brisbane International and Regions Morgan Keegan Championships.
Next up for the Mirnyi-Nestor duo are the sixth seeded Indians, Mahesh Bhupathi and Rohan Bopanna. The Indians made an epic comeback from a set down to stun the third seeded junction, Michael Llodra and Nenad Zimonjic, in a three
set nail-biter. They found their rhythm in the second set and then outclassed their rivals in the super tie-breaker, eventually registering a 2-6, 6-3, 10-8 score line in one hour and eight minutes.
