Max Mirnyi and Daniel Nestor cruise into the semis of the Men’s Doubles – French Open 2011
Second seeds, Belarus’ Max Mirnyi and Canada’s Daniel Nestor, eased past ninth seeds, Sweden’s Robert Lindstedt and Romania’s Horia Tecau, in straight sets to advance into the semi-finals of the Roland Garros 2011, second of the four Grand Slam event held in Paris, France on Tuesday.
The defending champions, Mirnyi and Nestor, downed the Swede Romanian tandem at Stade Roland Garros in exactly one hour to book a last four spot. They barely sweat and dominated all over the court to crush the lower seeds dreams.
The Belarusian Canadian duo stormed at Court Philippe Chatrier and easily held their opening serve to level the scores at 1-1. Later they held their remaining serves with amazing co-ordination and earned a single break of serve to bag the opener with a 6-4 victory.
Mirnyi and Nestor produced a much higher first serve share of 80 percent as compared to their rivals’ 61 percent and registered a spectacular 90 percent win on it. They faced zero breakpoint and converted one out of two to their advantage which helped them win the set.
The Belarusian Canadian pair raised their level of game in the final set and smoothly held their entire serves by rolling the balls expertly onto the lines. They converted two out of three breakpoint opportunities to their advantage to seal the set with an assuring 6-2 score line.
The higher ranked seeds booked awesome stats to themselves in this second set as well. They again produced a higher first serve share of 78 percent as opposed to Swede – Romanian’s 65 percent and earned an impressive 72 percent win on it. In addition to this, they won 27 points to their opponents’ 16 and never faced any threat from Lindstedt and Tecau to eventually clinch the set in twenty-seven minutes.
Enroute to the quarters, the winning seeds triumphed over French wild card enterers, Gael Monfils and Josselin Ouanna, in the opening round. Later they trashed Italian team of Filippo Volandri and Fabio Fognini in the second round. They dumped German Austrian pair of Christopher Kas and Alexander Peya in the third round to reach the last eight. They have yet to lose a set in this tournament and if they keep their momentum they can conquer this event again.
The winning combination of Mirnyi and Nestor will next face fourth seeded pair of French Michael Llodra and Serb Nenad Zimonjic who bounced back to win against American duo of Scott Lipsky and Rajeev Ram in a three set thriller.
