Slam events held in Paris, France. They registered a 7-6(4), 7-6(5) victory over Llodra and Zimonjic to advance into the final on Thursday.
The former champion Mirnyi now teamed up with Nestor, re-ignited their spark at this major clay court event and dominated in both set’s tie-breakers to seal the deal in one hour and forty-seven minutes at Stade Roland Garros. Nestor
won the last year’s French Open trophy with Zimonjic and has won seven Grand Slam doubles championship.
The upper seeds raged at Court Suzanne Lenglen and held their opening serve with blistering forehands from their arsenal of skills. They broke Llodra and Zmionjic’s serve once but they lost their serve once as well to extend the
set to tie-breaker. Mirnyi and Nestor prevailed in it to win the opener in three quarter of an hour with a 7-6(4) success. They produced a slightly higher first serve share of 66 percent as compared to their opponent’s 64 percent and registered an impressive
76 percent win on it.
The Belarusian Canadian duo broke French Serbian pair’s serve early on to take a 4-2 lead in the final set.
Llodra and Zimonjic then roared back by snatching the break back and then held their serve to love to square the scores at 4-4.
Nestor then saved breakpoints in the ninth game and the winning seeds then held their serve to drag the set to tie-breaker. The pair pinged the balls expertly onto the line to take a 5-3 lead and eventually bag the set with a 7-6(5)
win.
They clobbered a lower first serve share of 57 percent as opposed to their opponents’ 63 percent and earned an acceptable 66 percent win on it. Mirnyi and Nestor then saved four out of five breakpoints faced with their awesome
co-ordination and converted one out of two breakpoint opportunities to their advantage.
On their way to the final, Mirnyi and Nestor haven’t lost a set yet and are in top form. With their flawless performance, they trashed French wildcard enterants Gael Monfils and Josselin Ouanna, Italians Filippo Volandri and Fabio
Fognini, German Austrian pair of Christopher Kas and Alexander Peya and ninth seeded pair of Swede Robert Lindstedt and Romanian Horia Tecau in the pre semi rounds.
Next challenge for the winners is an unseeded pair of Colombian Juan Sebastian Cabal and Argentinean Eduardo Schwank who stunned top seeded Bryan brothers in straight sets to reach this spot.
