Max Mosley says F1 will lose its image by going to Bahrain in such worse conditions – Formula 1 news
Former president of the International Automobile Federation (FIA) Max Mosley has said that the Formula 1 management’s decision to reinstate the Bahrain Grand Prix will hurt the image of the sport.
Mosley added that Bahrain has ignored all Human Rights violations in the country and will use the Grand Prix as a tool to clear its image. However, he said in the process, Formula 1 will lose its image and participate in the manslaughter in Bahrain.
The FIA recently decided that the Bahrain Grand Prix will get a slot in the 2011 calendar and despite the fact that some Human Right representatives were present in the meeting, a huge number of protesters worldwide opposed the decision.
Mosley is also one of the protesters and explains how the Bahrain GP will hurt Formula 1 in the long run.
“Having carried out these horrific acts, the Bahrain government wants to clean up its image. That's where the grand prix comes in, by running the race they hope to show the world the troubles were just a small, temporary difficulty and everything is now
back to normal.” said Mosley.
He added, “If a sport accepts this role, it becomes a tool of government. If Formula One allows itself to be used in this way in Bahrain, it will share the regime's guilt as surely as if it went out and helped brutalise unarmed protesters.”
Recently some of the Human Rights activists warned the Formula 1 officials and teams to not to come to the struggling nation and should boycott the government who was not respecting human life.
After the decision was made, the Formula One Teams Association decided that they will independently review the Bahrain decision. Mosley added that Formula 1 should review their decision immediately because if they do not, Bahrain will hugely dent the reputation
of the sport.
Bahrain has been given a race date of October 30, 2011 but it will be interesting to see what the Formula 1 teams and officials decide.
