Max Pacioretty confident with new long-term deal thanks to GM Marc Bergevin -NHL Update
Few people had doubts in their mind relating to the Montreal Canadiens signing one of their most well known forwards, Max Pacioretty, after the player had one year left to go on his contract following the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season.
For many, a player of Pacioretty’s calibre definitely has a bright future ahead of him in the NHL with his age and capabilities, which is obviously one of the biggest reasons as to why the Canadiens did not hold back when signing him.
Newly appointed general manager, Marc Bergevin, can also be termed to be the initiator as he listened to the young forwards demands and amply met them without the two sides having to go into further talks.
The previous management headed by Pierre Gauthier was one that Pavioretty termed to be not willing to negotiate on terms and conditions and had him wondering where he could spend next season. Luckily, it all changed for the better and Pacioretty will be
a part of Montreal for the next six years.
"I wanted to do it at all times, but it's something that wasn't available with the old management situation," Pacioretty said Tuesday. "I didn't really know what to expect for the future, I didn't know if the new GM was willing to negotiate mid-contract.
As soon as they said they wanted to get a deal done, I love playing in Montreal and I wanted to get it done as soon as possible."
With six-years and $27 million, Pacioretty has made quite a name for himself not only having a breakthrough season, but also after rising to fame when Boston Bruins captain Zdeno Chara knocked him out cold during round-one of the 2011 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Getting a player that could pot 65 points (33 goals, 32 assists) and even more in one season was something Marc Bergevin knew would be close to impossible, which is why locking on the player before he became a free agent seemed like the only logical thing
to do.
Drafted as the 22nd overall player by Montreal back in 2007, Max Pacioretty has played in 202 games in total.
