Having scored one goal each in the first 40 minutes, both teams failed to answer back in the third period after which Montreal forward, Max Pacioretty, scored the game-winner in the overtime extension, lifting the Canadiens to victory over the Nashville
Predators, 2-1, Saturday night at the sold-out Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee, United States.
Montreal Canadiens got their second straight victory, both overtime winners, but it was

"We didn't play our game offensively", Nashville’s veteran defender, Shea Weber, said. "Obviously, we knew we were going to generate some chances if we got our pucks past their defense. We turned too many pucks over at the blue lines and that led to too
many chances for them”.
Nashville Predators are now tied with Detroit Red Wings and six other franchises for the fourth number spot in the Western Conference with 19 points, while Montreal sits at number 12 in the East with 16.
David Desharnais scored the first goal of the night giving Montreal Canadiens the 1-0 lead 13:49 into the opening period.
Both teams failed to capitalise on their respective power play opportunity during the first 20 minutes but it was Shea Weber who came out for the Nashville Predators and levelled the contest early into the second period, shorthanded with Matt Halischuk out
for tripping with a minor penalty.
Montreal and Nashville were nearly equal in their shooting during the third and final period of regulation, but both teams failed to pot a single shot to take the lead and make the tie-breaker, forcing an intense overtime extension.
"It was a tight game", Montreal goalie, Peter Budaj, said. "They played well, but our guys played great. They didn't have many chances in the first period. In the second period there were a few breakdowns and they scored a goal on our power play, which was
a momentum swing for them”.
Montreal Canadiens are eyeing a third straight win when they host the Buffalo Sabres on Monday while Nashville Predators have the next home game against Washington Capitals on Tuesday.
