Max Scherzer and Detroit Tigers headed for arbitration hearing – MLB Update
The Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Max Scherzer is expected to attend salary arbitration meeting in the next week. Sources are speculating in the media that the Tigers and Scherzer have slight differences on next season’s salary.
According to a major league source, the four-year veteran Scherzer wants $7.4 million whereas the Tigers are convinced to offer him 6.05 million.
Scherzer is a utility player and has been playing for the Tigers with great consistency in his four years’ career.
“I would say he would be, He's come a long way," said Tigers pitching coach Jeff Jones, who spoke about his pitcher during the team's winter caravan.
Later Mario Impemba, the team's television play-by-play announcer, "He was pitching that well, I was stunned how many people didn't give Max enough credit for what he did last year. Statistics aside -- 16 wins, second in the league in strikeouts (231), that's
all great -- but to pitch knowing that his brother had passed away in the middle of the season? He pitched an entire half year with that on his mind."
Tigers’ team manager Jim Leyland also said for Scherzer, "He is pretty mechanically inclined, and sometimes maybe to a fault. He wants to throw every pitch exactly perfect, and that doesn't always happen.”
Experts believe that Scherzer and Tigers will agree on a mutual understanding soon. Meanwhile, the Tigers have taken some more initiatives lately to come up extra offensive next season.
Along with Scherzer, the Tigers have also couple of more starting pitchers including Casey Crosby, Doug Fister and Rick Porcello.
Crosby is new in the Major League but he did a wonderful job in the last season. He was exceptional on the mound and achieved consistent ERA of 9.49 along with 1-1 win loss, nine strikeouts and 2.11 WHIP.
Whereas Doug Fister is an experienced player and possesses good numbers of 3.45 ERA along with 10-10 win-loss, 137 strikeouts and 1.19 WHIP while his career stats are also quite consistent with a 3.48 ERA.
Porcello is also carrying a good career record of 4.55 ERA along with 48-42 win-loss, 384 win loss and 1.42 WHIP.
