Max Scherzer lifts Detroit Tigers to famous series win against Los Angeles Angels – MLB Update
Detroit Tigers’ starting pitcher Max Scherzer put up a brilliant show at Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan on Sunday, August 26 to lift the Tigers to a famous series win against the Los Angeles Angels.
Credit should be given to Scherzer for maintaining his excellent form throughout this season. Showing great composure, the right hander pitched seven effective innings for his 14th win of the season. Striking-out nine batters and giving up just
a run, Scherzer created all sorts of problems for the Angels’ offence.
In some ways, Scherzer is an asset for the Tigers. He also became the first player from the Tigers since 1918 to strike-out at least eight batters in eight straight games.
"I'm pretty confident that Miguel will play third base in Kansas City," Leyland said. "I think this did wonders for him and it had nothing to do with winning the game. Had we not won the game, there would've been the people to say `Hey, how can you not at
least DH him in the pennant race?' I didn't sleep last night. When I talked to Cabrera, I knew the best thing was to rest him no matter what the outcome."
Not only does he have the best stats among all Tigers’ starters this season but he also has the ability to play his A game under pressure. His desire to learn new techniques is what makes him successful more often than not. It will be interesting to see
if he can continue his good work in his upcoming starts to give the Tigers a better chance of making it to the playoffs.
"I feel comfortable," he said. "I'm always confident that every start, I can give the team a chance to win."
Slugger Prince Fielder also played a key role in deciding the outcome of the clash as he hit a tie breaking home-run to right in the sixth inning. Delmon Young smacked a home-run and Quintin Berry hit a sacrifice fly to centre in the eighth to give Angels
a taste of their own medicine. For the Angels, Torii Hunter and Kendrys Morales drove in one run each.
