Max Scherzer shines in Detroit Tigers win against Tampa Bay Rays – MLB Update
Starting pitcher max Scherzer looked in commanding form in the opening game of Detroit Tigers’ four match series against the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida.
Scherzer showed just what he is capable of as he played a key role in deciding the outcome of the game. Since making his Major League Baseball debut, the right hander has shown glimpses of his immense talent on numerous occasions but it will not be wrong
to say that he has not been able to fulfil his immense potential.
In his 83 big league games so far, Scherzer is 43-40 with a decent 4.06 ERA. The running season has brought some great results for the starting pitcher already. Right now, he is 7-5 with 4.98 ERA and surely he will be looking to work hard to lower his ERA.
"As difficult as the time is for me, you know for me it's about going out there and pitching well and helping the team," Scherzer said. "We want to win. Any time I can go out there and give our team a chance to win, that's what I'm all about."
"When he gets the right arm slot going, and is not flopping around off the mound ... he's pretty consistent," Leyland said of Scherzer.
"It was a good game. ... We pitched very well," he added. "We got some big hits. Scherzer was good. The bullpen was good."
The game between the Tigers and Tampa Bay Rays on Thursday evening was all about Scherzer. Allowing just two runs and four hits, the starter had an excellent time on the mound.
Only Elliot Johnson managed to get an RBI single off him. It was also his second appearance after his brother’s death last week and credit must be given to him for keeping his focus on the game.
Tigers’ Manager Jim Leyland was also very pleased to see Scherzer tossing up six solid innings. With the ace Justin Verlander also getting back to his prime form, Tigers’ pitching attack can pose serious threat to the teams in American League.
