Max Sirena aims for top spot as Luna Rossa hits second place on Day 4 of 2011 Extreme Sailing Series Act 8
From the very beginning of the 2011 Extreme Sailing Series Act 8 at Almeria port, the 11-boat Extreme 40 fleet has been witnessing continuous podium shifts and those who topped the standings in the beginning are now in the middle of leaderboard. The score
board is currently dominated by Swiss boat, Alinghi, while Italy’s Luna Rossa is also closing to the top finish at the end of Day 4.
Italian boat skipper, Max Sirena is aiming to finish on top of the standings after the conclusion of final day’s racing. Sirena and crew comprising of Paul Campbell-James, Alister Richardson and Manuel Modena are determined to sail up to standards on the
ultimate day.
The Luna Rossa skipper spoke to media at the conclusion of Day 4, “The objective for today was really to sail better than yesterday when we made some big mistakes which cost us a lot of points. Luckily today the conditions were great with some strong wind
and flying hulls, which we haven’t done for a long time.”
The Italian team also had an incident on fourth day with France’s Groupe Edmond de Rothschild, but luckily they were saved from the tragic collision between the French team and Emirates Team New Zealand. However, the Kiwi boat was damaged so badly that they
had to pull out of the tournament immediately.
Sirena told about the incident and said, “We had a few tight situations with Groupe Edmond de Rothschild and a few other guys, but we managed pretty well to come out clean. We are surprised to be second but tomorrow is the final day and there are still a
lot of points to fight for.”
