The former AC Milan player has stated that he has been impressed by the Samp’s desire to sign him, and also intrigued by the club’s ambitions to do something special.
Maxi Lopez has explained his reason for opting to join the ranks at Sampdoria, and has stated that his decision to move to the team has a lot to do with the club's ambitious project.
The Argentine international spent the last six month on loan to AC Milan from Catania, but could not entice the Rossoneri to make a permanent move at the end of the loan period.
Moreover, the striker had also burned his bridges with the Elephants, and thus was stranded in the middle looking for a new outfit to sign with.
The move to Sampdoria has been made possible through a loan-deal with owners Catania costing €2.5m, with an option to make the move permanent at the end of the season with further €6m.
Maxi Lopez stated that he is happy to be at Sampdoria, and is motivated by the club’s big plans for its future.
The Elefanti-owned player stressed that he is honoured to have attracted such strong interest from a club such as the Samp, and insisted that it was difficult for him to say no to an outfit from the city of Genoa.
While talking to the Samptv, the 28-year-old said:
“The sensation is good. I’m happy to arrive at a major club that has big ambitions. I am very happy to take these first steps in this big city. When you are wanted so much a club like Sampdoria from a prestigious town like this, then it is difficult to turn
them down.”
Sampdoria competed in Serie B last year, and gained their promotion to play the next season in Italy’s top flight.
Their preparations ahead of their Serie A campaign has seen them hire Italy’s under-21 manager, Ciro Ferrara, and the club is en route to signing re-enforcements in the summer transfer window.
Lopez insisted that the Samp’s desire to sign him was a key factor to his move to the city of Genoa, and stated that such an interest was important to him in this phase of his career.
The Blucerchiati striker stated that the Samp has a good project, and stressed that he is looking forward to do well at the newly-promoted outfit.
