Liverpool FC have officially confirmed that Maxi Rodriguez has parted ways with the club, after the winger was heavily linked with a move back to Newell’s Old Boys.
The Argentinean International arrived at Anfield as a free agent in January 2010, after completing his stipulated term with Atletico Madrid. He signed a three-year contract with the Reds at that time, which meant that the player still had one year left on
his deal with the Merseyside club.
However Rodriguez, who remained a victim of neglect under former manager Kenny Dalglish, had earlier expressed his disquiet over getting limited opportunities at Anfield. His agent had also allayed the player’s concerns recently, and revealed that they had
reached to an understanding with Newell’s Old Boys over the terms of his transfer.
Since his move to the Premier League in January 2010, Rodriguez netted 17 goals for the Reds in 73 professional appearances.
A statement from the club’s official website read, “Liverpool Football Club can today confirm that Maxi Rodriguez has joined Newell's Old Boys in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Argentina-c2841.”
“Everyone at http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 FC would like to thank Maxi for his contribution to the club and wish him all the best for the future.”
The winger made his Liverpool debut against Stoke City on the 16th of January 2010, after he came on as a substitute in the second half. The high mark of his stint at Merseyside was the 2010/11 season, in which he went on to score 10 goals which
included hat-tricks against Birmingham City and Fulham.
His last notable show came during the Reds trip to Ewood Park in April, in which he fired a brace in his side’s thrilling 3-2 win.
Keeping in view his lack of involvement in the first team and the fact that he started his career with the Argentinean outfit, Rodriguez has finally dropped the curtains on his Anfield future to make a return to his country.
Earlier from 1999 to 2002, he capped 57 appearances for the Leprosy and scored 20 goals.
On his official Twitter account, the player expressed his gratitude towards his former club and the fans for all their support and love.
“Thank you very much to the "Red" for your love. I'll take in my heart.”
