Question:

Maxi cosi cabriofix - removing newborn insert

My baby is 11 weeks old and is starting to look really squashed when in her car seat. It has a removable insert with head support that will give her more room if taken out but the instructions say to remove it at 4 or 5 months.

Has anyone removed theirs earlier than this and if so has it still been safe and comfortable for your baby?

  1. What a coincidence! Our Daughter turned 12 weeks today, has a Maxi Cosi Cabriofix car seat and we removed the newborn insert today too.

What we've done initially is to just remove the bum bit by taking it out completely and just removing the wedge shape foam from the part they sit on, this enables them to sit further back in the car seat and drops their bottom down, meaning that the part that surrounds their head has a little more room in it for a while longer. Once you've done this, just thread the straps back through as it was and you'll see what a difference it makes.

Like I said, we did it today and went off to Tesco and our Daughter had tons more room and didn't have a hot, sweaty head when we took her out because she'd been squished in.

I hope that makes sense :-)

  2. take it out.  The bottom line is you want your baby to be comforatable.  We removed ours when my son was 12 wks.  The instructions give general guidlines for age.  Every baby is different.
