Maxim Mitrofanov believes Zenit St. Petersburg will not consider offloading Bruno Alves despite interest from Sporting Lisbon and Juventus FC.
Zenit St. Petersburg’s General Manager, Maxim Mitrofanov, has said that the St. Petersburg club have not yet received any formal proposals for the Meshki defender, Bruno Alves, despite news suggesting big offers from Juventus FC
and Sporting Lisbon.
Alves earned himself a starting berth at the Russian outfit under Luciano Spalletti after his 22 million Euros move from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Porto-c39186. He signed a four-year contract last year and adapted to the league in no time.
The former AEK Athens player started three UEFA Champions League group stage matches this term but failed to impress during the course. However, Mitrofanov believes that the promising defender still has a big part to play at the
club and would only leave if Zenit recieve an appropriate offer from a big club.
"http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Bruno-Alves-c8108 is attracting interest from several clubs. However, we have not yet received formal proposals. Whatever the case will be but I am confident that it will be very hard to buy Alves for any team.” Mitrofanov was quoted
as saying.
He added: “He became an important player in the basic composition and his contract runs for another three years.”
If speculations are to believed, the Bianconeri reportedly tried to sign the 30-year-old during the summer transfer window. However, they failed to meet the asking price for the player, as Zenit were looking to recoup the amount
of money they had paid last year.
Alves' father, Washington Alves, has admitted to his son’s interest for a mouthwatering move to the Italian giants.
"My son is one of the best defenders in the world. It is normal that he is happy [with Juventus' interest], he wants to wear the club's shirt and he has already made it very clear to Zenit.”
After spending a year at the Russian outfit, many expected Alves to see out his contract. Lack of transfer activity and a timely approach from Juventus, however, has now forced the promising defender to think otherwise.
