Maxime Authom stuns Jesse Levine in the first round – Mons Challenger 2012 CH
Ranked 188th in the ATP World Tour Rankings, Maxime Authom successfully entered the first round of the Mons Challenger 2012 held at the hard courts of Belgium. The local contender took advantage of his home ground and
jolted a remarkable score, 6-4, 5-7, 6-3 against the higher ranked American professional, Jesse Levine, in nearly two hours.
The 24-year-old, American, was unable to clinch the lead and his rival broke his serve in the third game. Authom very confidently drew the first blood and did not even give rival a single opportunity to overpower. He used his experience
to his advantage and did not even face a single hindrance, which crushed his rival’s moral. The Belgian smoothly progressed, maintaining his pose and concluded the opener with a 6-4 score line.
In the second set, the right-hander, Levine, turned the tables upside down and held his initial serve. He attained his lead by busting his rival’s serve in the fourth game and marked his 3-1 lead. On the other hand, Authom struggled
hard to regain his winning title and broke his rival’s serve in the ninth game. Towards the end, the score line squared down to 5-all in the very next game, which aroused an alarming threat for the American professional. He nudged forward and clinched the
last two games to mark the set closure with a 7-5 lead.
In the final set, both players gave each other a tough starting battle. The score line levelled down to 2-all in the fourth and 3-all in the sixth game. The 25-year-old Belgian participant swiftly gained his long lost momentum,
breaking Levine’s serve in the very next game. In the end, he jumped forward and bagged away the last three games, stamping a 6-3 win.
The world number 69th, Levine, luckily managed to fire just five aces onto his rival and had an improved first serve precision of 59 percent. He converted 41 of 61 first and 23 of 42 second delivery points. The American
junior had remarkable stats, as he bombarded his 16 aces and 54 percent first serve accuracy with 38 of 42 points.
