Maxime Gonalons in line to be offered a new contract at Olympique Lyonnais– report
After extending the contracts of Brazilian international Michel Bastos and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 international goalkeeper, Olympique Lyonnais are considering offering academy player Maxime Gonalons a new contract in order to fend-off interest from potential suitors.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-Lyonnais-c40130 have made a terrific start to the 2011/2012 Ligue 1 campaign and are currently in third place in the Ligue 1 standings and three points behind leaders Paris Saint-Germain. Remi Garde, coach of Les Gones has adapted to the policy of giving
the young players at the club a chance to impress and they young coach’s gamble has paid off pretty well so far.
Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has now started offering contract extensions to those players who he feels will help the club to move on to bigger and better things over the coming years. Initially, Aulas extended the contracts of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michel-Bastos-c25461 and Hugo
Lloris, two players who have been the club’s stalwarts in recent seasons.
Reports in French media now suggest that the Lyon supremo is willing to offer young midfielder Maxime Gonalons a new contract. The 22-year-old is a Lyon academy player and has become a vital member of Les Gones starting XI this season.
Gonalons is under contract at the club until June 23, 2013 and is currently being monitored by La Liga giants Real Madrid. Real Madrid sporting director Zinedine Zidane was present in the weekend’s encounter between Lyon and PSG at the Parc des Princes and
was visibly impressed by his display.
However, Aulas is not willing to part with the midfielder who he believes will play an important role in shaping the club’s future. Furthermore, Remi Garde also sees the young midfielder as an important member of his squad and is unwilling to be without
his services.
Discussions over a new contract are already underway and Lyon are keen on finalising the extension as soon as possible. With the young players now starting to flourish under the tutelage of Remi Garde, Lyon will definitely need to keep hold of the likes
of Gonalons, Clement Grenier and Bakary Kone who will have a big role to play for the Rhone giants in the coming seasons.
