Maxime Michel earns a quarter-final round entry in Hellas International – Badminton News
Men’s Singles shuttler, Maxime Michel, played flawless badminton at Hellas International tournament and qualified for the quarter-final round on May 17, 2013. The French campaigner locked horns with Henrik Toth
and their encounter prolonged to 55 minutes before ending with the final figures of 20-22, 21-11 and 21-8.
Maxime looked a bit off-colour initially, as he lost the opening game but then he managed to revive his lost form and prevailed in the ending two games. On the other hand, Henrik Toth squandered his efforts in
the final moments and bid adieu to this event in a woeful manner.
Henrik started his campaign with few productive rallies and established a decent lead in the beginning of the first set. He played with great precision and doubled his total in next couple of rallies.
However, he could not continue with same momentum and allowed his challenger to proceed on the points table. Maxime did not fritter away this opportunity and levelled the score in third quarter of the set. He
maintained a decent lead all the way to game point situation but then few back-to-back mistakes jeopardised his stakes.
Henrik struck hard when it mattered and won the opening game of match with a tight yet decisive total of 22-20.
There was lot of drama in the following game as Henrik completely lost his touch and surrendered tamely. He lost this crucial set with a deficit of ten points. Things went out of his hands when the French shuttler
prevailed in establishing rallies.
Maxime kept on moving forward at steady pace and doubled his total before the announcement of break. After the mid-game break, he injected more intensity in his attack and won this set with a staggering knock
of 21-11.
The decider was completely dominated by Maxime as he did not give his competitor even a single chance to make a come back and sent him packing with an overwhelming performance.
He laid foundation of his supremacy in the beginning and ruled the court all the way to game point situation. He registered an impressive figure of 21-8 and setup his quarter-final tussle with Jan Frohlich.
