Maxime Teixeira overcomes Maxime Authom in round one – Rai Open 2012 CH
Belgian contestant, Maxime Teixeira, battled past the French qualifier, Maxime Authom, in a three set thriller at the Rai Open 2012 on Tuesday. He summed up a 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 victory against the 25-year-old to labour into the second round at this ATP (Association
of Tennis Professionals) Challenger Tour event taking place in Rome, Italy.
Teixeira spilled more double faults but stayed focused to carve out the victory in almost two hours at this clay court event. After earning the limelight at this battle, the French assertively advanced into the round of 16.
The world number 215 made a strong start at this red clay court event and drew the first blood in the opening game to jump to a 2-0 lead. He maintained his intensity and held remaining serves until he broke again in the seventh game to leap at 5-2. Regardless
of losing his serve in the very next game, Teixeira held his serve once more and bagged the opener with a 6-4 win.
Authom carried his losing ways in the following set and suffered the first blow in the opening game to fall at 0-2. However, he made a fitting reply after that and went on a six-game killing spree to pull out the equaliser with a 6-2 score line.
The high-spirited qualifier carried his spark in the final set and earned the desiderated break in the second game to take a 2-0 lead. However he stepped off gas after that and lost his path.
Teixeira on the other hand got back in game after that and quickly counterattacked by recovering in the very next game. He maintained consistency in his game and swiped in his entire serves with conviction. The French got the breakthrough in the seventh
game and sealed the decider by winning six games to four.
Overall, the French clobbered a higher first serve share of 60 per cent as compared to Authom’s 48 per cent and tremendously availed 37 out of 55 points on it.
Next challenge for Teixeira is the conqueror of the match between top seeded Latvian, Ernests Gulbis, and the Germany contender, Simon Greul.
