Maxime Teixeira stuns Matthias Bachinger in the first round – Istanbul Challenger 2012 CH
Fifth seeded, Matthias Bachinger receives a shocking defeat at the hand of the French, Maxime Teixeira, in the first round of the Istanbul Challenger 2012. The Frenchman prevailed over his rival in the last two
set, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 on the eve of Monday.
Ranked 109th in the ATP World Tour Rankings, Bachinger retained his initial serve in the opener and quickly evened out the score line to 2-all in the fourth game. As he gradually gained
momentum, the French provided him a tough competition. He broke his rival’s serve in the eighth game, bringing the scores to 4-all. The German held her later serves and marked a 6-4 win.
The 23-year-old French could not get the better of his opponent due to his five double faults at critical moments in the match and a relatively lower initial serve accuracy of 51 percent. He secured four of six
serve breaks, attaining 14 of 21 points. Similarly, the German right-hander had a superior first serve of 68 percent, converting 16 of 27 points and he never double faulted in the entire set.
World number 247, Teixeira, shifted the momentum of the game and quickly clinched the opportunity by breaking the German’s serve, leading the score line by 2-1. He progressed very smoothly in the set, dominating
the contest with his superior game plan. Bachinger struggled hard to regain his lost impetus but nudged away by his opponent, facing a 4-6 loss.
The deciding set repeated a similar pattern but this time around the 25-year-old German battled hard to equalize the scores. He broke the right-handed Frenchman’s serve once in the fourth game and secured a 2-2
score. Nonetheless, Teixeira smashed another break in the German’s serve by the end of seventh game and closed the set with a 6-4 win.
The French professional had an average first serve precision but he successfully pocketed 10 of 13 second deliveries and conserved one of the two break points. In comparison to that, the German participant had
a higher serve rate of 68 percent but he only bagged away six of second points with no break points conservation.
Next, Teixeira will contest against Denis Zivkovic in the next encounter of the tournament.
