Maximo Gonzalez ousts Alessio Di Mauro in second round – Uruguay Open 2011 CH
Argentinean Maximo Gonzalez showed a powerful stance against Italian Alessio Di Mauro as he moved into the quarterfinals of the 2011 Uruguay Open.
Playing the second round match of the competition, Gonzalez played an exceptional match against the Italian. Gonzalez did not give Mauro any chance to move up in the match. The Argentinean won the match in straight sets, 6-2,
6-0.
Their match, the second round match at the 2011 Uruguay Open, proved to be a tough challenge for Mauro to overcome. As the set began, Gonzalez and Mauro delivered an ace each. The Argentinean conceded double faults twice in the
set while Mauro had them thrice in the set.
Ranked at 130th spot in the world, Gonzalez had a 56% first serve winning rate. 34-year old Mauro, ranking at the world number 214th spot, had a 48% first serve winning rate.
The Argentinean was doing well with his service games as he won 65% points from his first serve and 50% points from his second. His service games were the decisive factor, which kept him in the lead throughout the first set.
Mauro was trying to do well with his serves, but he could not keep at par with his opponent in the set. The Italian won 54% points with his first serve but could not maintain the pace of his serves as he won only 29% points from
his second serve.
Throughout the match, Mauro tried to gain some sort of lead or at least come close to his opponent in the set, but all his efforts went in vain. Gonzalez saved two breakpoints out of the three he had.
On the other hand, Mauro could only save two breakpoints out of the five chances that he got. None of Mauro’s counter attacks could give him the desired result as Gonzalez won the first set 6-2.
With the second set in progress, neither of the two players could score points with aces. Their double faults were also low as they conceded a double fault each in the set.
28-year old Gonzalez was again playing good service games as he had a 74% first serve winning rate while his opponent could only secure a 50% rate.
Gonzalez won 86% points from his first serve while the Italian won 33% points. Both players’ second serve points drastically reduced as Gonzalez won 20% points from his second serve while Mauro could only win 11% points from his
second serves.
Mauro wanted to tie the match but he was unable to win any game in the second set. His service games were off target and his shots did not have the necessary pace to guide him into the lead.
His opponent, Gonzalez, was right on target as he was able to save the only breakpoint he faced. Mauro could only save two breakpoints from the five chances he got. The Italian’s game play was below average as he lost the match
without showing any fighting stance.
Gonzalez won the second set 6-0 and made his into the quarterfinals of the tournament.
