Maximo Gonzalez surmounts Ivan Endara in 1st round – Ciudad de Guayaquil Challenger 2011
Sixth seeded Argentinean Maximo Gonzalez ousted Ecuadorian lucky loser Ivan Endara in the first round of the Ciudad de Guayaquil Challenger 2011.
The two players were unfamiliar with each other’s style and performance as they were meeting for the first time and they confronted each other on outdoor classic courts of Guayaquil Tennis Club in Guayaquil, Ecuador. After a lengthy one hour and fifty five minutes sixth seeded Argentinean flogged the Ecuadorian lucky loser with a score of 6-4, 7-6(1) on Tuesday the 22nd of November 2011.
Although both the sets were bagged by Gonzalez, the first set was a lopsided victory. He had hit sixty three percent of his first serves and clogged a grandiose eighty percent of his first service points in the opening set. He not only had a good service game but also a fine return game which assisted him in achieving a seventy nine percent win of his second return points in the initial round.
Moreover, Gonzalez saved fifty percent of his breakpoints and capitalized on forty percent of breakpoints won. He accomplished the opening set with a fifty eight percent of his total set points.
Gonzalez opened the primary round and he bagged his first service game to commence the scoreboard at 1-0. He then capitalized on a breakpoint and with a hold of serve in the third game he had scooped three successive games to take a mini lead on the scoreboard at three games to love.
In subsequent two games, the players bagged a service game each. However, by capitalizing on a breakpoint in the seventh game, Endara reduced the deficit to 3-4 and with a hold of serve in the next game; he mitigated the deficit to equalize the score at four games each at the end of the eighth game.
However, it was a lucky day for Gonzalez as he held his respective serve and then capitalized on a breakpoint to bag the opening round with a 6-4 victory.
During the second round the players took on a competitive game from the very beginning and they kept matching an eye for an eye. By capitalizing on two break points each, the players kept the score tied for the first four games and from there onwards they kept bagging their respective service games to ultimately shove the set into a tiebreaker at the end of the twelfth game.
The toe-to-toe leg lost its edge in the tiebreaker and first to take the lead was Gonzalez. He further maintained that lead with a series of breaks and holds to eventually clinch the tiebreaker at 7-1.
The sixth seeded Argentinean will now be facing compatriot Pablo Galdon in the second round of the event.
