i was just wondering.

what is the fastest download speed possible??

really the fastest possible,

not just the fastest from a 256kbps connection or something

i mean from all kinds of connections that excist :p

I've read articles that new technology can transfer full-length DVD movies across the country in seconds.  I think it was on the order of 10-20GB per second.

That's not available yet but it's on the way...

Well, you can read someone got 40Gb/s but its most definitely a lie

But it seems to be about 2Gb/s

One poster referred to a network for educational institutions.

They were probably referring to Internet2, which is a 100Gbps network backbone connecting more than 200 Universities and partners.

Fastest download speed possible.... it's way up there. On your personal computer, if you have an old computer with a Serial ATA Hard drive, you couldn't transfer faster than your computer could accept the data, 133 Mbps. Sata of course can go faster.

Providers in your area, DSL can get you download speeds from 10-20 Mbps on expensive plans, cable companies usually provide up to about 16-18 Mbps download speeds. Some FIOS networks, provide 50 and 100 Mbps download speeds.

Fiber companies could give you dedicated connections (at several thousand dollars per month) A DS3 would give you 45 Mbps (download and upload BTW) an OC3 is 155 Mbps, and it goes up from there.

I think the Verizon FIOS internet connection is the fastest commercially available broadband.  Up to 50MBps capability.  

There is a new faster fiber optic network connecting some of the major university's in the East and the West, but I cannot remember the codename for this one.  It is basically for academic research.
