May I ask soldiers questions while in uniform, or is that illegal

Hello all again. I am back. The college student at UC berkeley, g*y pride man involved in code pink protesting. However, I wanted to conduct something on my own for a change. I am putting together a survey of questions, not rude questions, and would like to give them to soldiers to fill out and either do it there or have mail them to me. But I was wondering if i went to a base, as a visitor, could I do such a thing while soldiers are on base and in uniform, or is that against rules?

If I were to come in peace, which I would, and show deep respect for them, would they consider doing this for me?

Thank you all so much

Peace be to you.

oh, yes, the survey is about the war, peoples reaction, what the soldier thinks and feels relating to media coverage and various other questions.

  1. It's not illegal but soldiers are not allowed to answer questions which are political in any way, questions which violate operational security, or questions which deal with things out of their area of occupational influence. You'd be better off going to a VFW post, but mind you you'll prolly get thrown out pretty quickly, i know I would throw ya out.

Soldiers have enough c**p as it is to deal with. They dont join to tell the world their political views. We let the American People decide that. Until we're out of the military, and really never for most, we dont want to answer questions from an anti-war group. Plain and simple. So please, don't even bother.

  2. Sure... and if you actually make it on base, make sure you wear a shirt that that says "I hate America...:

    Get a life...

  3. Pinkie stay away from any military members, it is bad enough you spew BS about them, please don't contaminate the air they breath.

No it is not illegal, just don't

  4. I live on base... they are not closed.  Nope last time I checked (TODAY) they have open gates.  Yes, you have to show a valid driver's license, but if you tell them your business, you get on (at least on the army post where I live).

I wouldn't do it however.  Soldiers have little respect for war protesters... VERY LITTLE.

  5. Yes, but you would be leaving in an ambulance as soon as your anti-military agenda became apparent...

  6. You can't just get on a base as a visitor.  You need to be sponsored.

Military members will probably not answer your questions.

Not out of disrespect to you or your "cause" but out of obligation and duty.  There are public affairs people that you would need to go through to ask your questions.

  7. The answer lays within the definition of masochism...

"The deriving of pleasure, or the tendency to derive pleasure, from being humiliated or mistreated, either by another or by oneself.

A willingness or tendency to subject oneself to unpleasant or trying experiences."

It would be ill advised for you to attempt your little demonstration, and that is what it is (your mind is made up, as to the goals, honor, and necessity of the War, of us, and of any thing that involves decisive action.) You aren't going to ask questions, but try to troll, like you do here... well, face to face, you must be the very definition of m*******t...

  8. You will not be allowed on base unless you are going on with someone who is in the military or if you are visiting a specific person.  All bases are closed now still.  You may want to go to where some military hang out off post.  Good luck

  9. You would need to contact a Public Affairs Office at a military base to do something like that.  It could be done.  If you just tried to do it without coordination, the Military Police would more then likely escort you off the facility if you tried to do it with out coordination.

There would also more then likely be rules for behavior, if something like what Code Pink tries to do at Congressional hearing on CSPAN happens, you would be escorted off.

  10. Only if you go to Ft Bragg to deliver them. Those guys deserve all the recreation they can get.

  11. WHY ?.....What is the purpose of your survey ?  I doubt there is any survey of military personnel that has not been conducted.... and is available with a little research.

In order to conduct any type of survey or business on a military reservation you must apply for and get permission from the installation commander

This permission is contingent on the potential impact on the installation and / or troops..... If it is perceived as a form of protest or might cause an adverse response from the troops.....you will not be allowed to conduct it on post.

There are many computer sites which are dedicated to military personnel / subjects...... you probably will have better luck conducting your survey over the internet...... You can mail me a copy if you like
