I have a female dwarf hamster and she is like 5 months old and I really want another female hamster. In the pet shop, the hamsters are 3 months old, should I buy another, or should they fight?

What do I do?

Help!

  1. you can try if it doesnt work out you can keep them both but buy them separate cages

  2. I wouldn't, if you wanted a second one you should've gotten a second one from her same litter or one that was housed with her.

Chances are high that she will  fight with new hamster because hamsters are very terriotoral! (even hamster of the SAME litter or cage can fight!) My friend had two sisters in a cage and the bigger grey one beat the c**p out of the sweeter white one and blood was ALL over!

You can how every buy two cages and place the cages side-by-side so they can see each other and even bond. Then you try taking them out and seeing what happenes. Then when they are friends even put them in the same cage!

  3. I dont think females will fight with each other (unless they are humans, LOL - Im so sorry ladies).

Btw, nice new image you have now, Destiny.

  4. Dwarf hamsters can live together if they are from the same litter or have been introduced at the same young age.If they are not from the same litter or have an age difference, they can fight badly like Syrians. In a few rare cases, litter mates can also viciously fight since one might decide to have the "dominate" character over the other.

The current female hamster is already 5months old and would have become territorial and solitary in her cage. Now introducing her to another hamster can cause fights, hence I would advise you to abstain from doing the same. If you want to, you can give it a try but be ready with another cage if the current hamster turns hostile.

  5. Yes, you can buy another dwarf hamster. I would know because my friend has 3 living in the same cage. She got them at different times and they are not from the same litter. It'll be absolutely fine and she will have a playmate.

  6. Well, first of all, all hamsters fight sometimes. But some don't fight as much as others. Usually, it's best to get two from the same litter and at the same time, but I'm not sure. It would be risky because they would also fight over territory. But like you said if you buy a new cage and both be new with the cage, it will probably work fine.

But, there will always be a risk. Awhile ago I went to a pet store and wanted to buy two Chinese Dwarf Hamsters but the only had one. So I asked the employee and he said if you're going to get two you have to get them at the same time pretty much. But with the new cage again the results could be different.

But the most important thing is to make sure and double, double, check that they're both female. And I say that because if one is a male and one female they will breed like heck. And if you're away when they breed they dad will most likely eat the babies. Yes it's sad and disgusting but it will happen.

But as long as you get another female and move them into a new cage I think they'll do fine. Good luck with the second one! Hope I helped and if you need any help email me. Good luck, and have fun.
